Life Cycle of Dogs
By Lauren

Dogs are mammals, so they have live births. There are usually about six puppies born. When they are born they have lots of fur. Even though they may have fur they really need to be in contact with their Mama. She keeps them warm and protected.

The mamas give milk to their babies. She takes care of them as they grow.

A dog is considered a puppy until it turns one year old.

Most dogs live 12-14 years. Many people have dogs as pets. They are part of many families.

Here's something to think about:

This is Vivian. She is a beagle.
I learned from another Promote Georgia website that many people say that one human year is equal to 7 dog years. It has been said that this is because dogs become adults when they are between one and two years old. So that got me thinking: I'm eight years old. That means I am 56 years old in dog years! Wow!

How old are you in dog years? To find out multiply your age by 7.

Your age x 7 = _____ dog years old
